What is Diffuse Sensing?

Optical Proximity Sensors provide precise detection using integrated light source and receiver technology, making them ideal for challenging applications where only one side of the detection path is accessible.

  • Integrated Design: Combines the light source and receiver in one housing for compact and efficient operation.
  • Beam Technology: The light source emits a diverging beam, collected by a wide-angle receiving lens or bifurcated fiber optic light guide for accurate detection.
  • Single-Sided Detection: Ideal for scenarios where access to both sides of the detection path is not possible, such as objects on a conveyor belt.
  • Background Suppression: Reduces interference from shiny or reflective surfaces by adjusting the sensor's angle of incidence.
  • High-Performance Applications: Equipped with high-gain amplifiers and contrast indicators for detecting objects with minimal light-level differences from the background.
  • Detection Range: Capable of detecting small objects as close as 1/8 inch and larger objects up to 6 feet away.

How Does Retroreflective & Polarized Retroreflective Sensors Work?

Tri-Tronics® Retroreflective and Polarized Retroreflective Sensors offer reliable solutions for long-range and challenging sensing applications, with specialized features to ensure accuracy and reduce interference.

  • Dual lens or bifurcated fiber optic light guides align the transmitted and received beams along the same axis.
  • Detects object presence or absence by sensing interruptions in the light beam path.
  • Cost-effective and easy to install for general-purpose sensing.

What is Thru-Beam Sensing?

The Opposed Mode of sensing, also known as Beam Break sensing, is one of the most reliable methods for detecting opaque objects in challenging environments.

  • Utilizes two separate devices:
    • A light source to transmit the beam.
    • A receiver to detect the beam.
  • Detection occurs when an object interrupts or diminishes the light beam's intensity.
  • Key benefits:
    • Provides reliable detection in dusty, dirty, and moisture-laden environments.
    • Ideal for detecting opaque products.
  • While alignment and installation may require additional effort, its advantages outweigh the challenges in adverse conditions.
  • Remember: When opaque, go Beam Break.
